Engrybirdz Mel Baveas Rochford Street Review
1 October 2016 | Rochford Street ReviewFeatured Artists: Engrybirdz — Dorit Goldman (dis_Object) & Mel Baveas (der_melicious)
In October 2016, Rochford Street Review featured Engrybirdz, the collaborative practice I founded with artist Dorit Goldman. Working under the names der_melicious and dis_Object, Engrybirdz developed a multidisciplinary practice combining sculpture, text, interactive art and public interventions.
The profile, curated by writer Zalehah Turner, documented our collaborative practice and its development through projects undertaken during our time at Sydney College of the Arts and beyond. It highlighted our 2015 Honours project _______Hours, completed at Sydney College of Art, alongside a range of public, private and artist-run projects across Sydney.
The feature provides an important record of Engrybirdz's early collaborative practice, including projects at Articulate Project Space, Factory 49, M Contemporary, Sydney College of the Arts and the Redfern Biennale. It also documents our participation in Fresh Paint Grilled Chicken, connecting the collaborative practice to the wider exhibition and artist-led networks we were developing at the time.
The publication is significant to my archive as an early critical and biographical record of Engrybirdz, documenting my practice under the artist name der_melicious alongside Dorit Goldman.
